AUXIER — In a sense, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office went fishing this week and ended up landing a whopper.
The department began working with the Hancock County, Tenn., sheriff’s department on Monday, after that office turned up information that a fugitive wanted there might be in Floyd County.
Jerry Wayne Anderson II, 25, of Sneedville, Tenn., was wanted for allegedly embezzling $75,000 from a farm and home supply company in Sneedville. He was believed to be headed to Floyd County to hide out.
On Tuesday, Deputy Landon Hall, Chief Greg Clark and Sgt. Kevin Shepherd just happened to spot Anderson walking alongside the road and stopped him. According to Hall, Anderson later admitted to being the man they for whom they were looking.
Anderson was taken into custody without incident and was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center. He now awaits an extradition hearing, before being taken back to Tennessee.
