FRANKFORT — With the passage of the state budget Monday night also came approval for $1.6 million in coal-severance tax-funded projects for Floyd County.


Senior citizens, fire departments and veterans will get first dibs on the money, with 44 total projects being named and 40 of those designated as “priority” projects.


Among those top priorities are $200,000 a year for Floyd County Senior Citizens Inc. and $1,750 a year for each of 17 fire departments and six veterans groups.


Also designated as priority projects, but further down on the list, were $25,000 for a new bus for Disabled American Veterans Chapter 128, $10,000 a year for the Floyd County Emergency and Rescue Squad, $75,000 a year for a new building for Left Beaver Fire and Rescue, $2,500 a year for Wayland Park, $12,500 a year for Elkhorn Park ATV trails, $20,000 each for Garrett Park, Ishmeal Abner Caudill Park, Minnie Park and Weeksbury Park, $30,000 for Wheelwright streets and sidewalks, $20,000 for the Wheelwright swimming pool, $75,000 a year for scholarships at the Highlands Center for Autism, $50,000 a year for Drug Court, $140,000 for Stonecrest, $80,000 for the Mountain Arts Center, $70,000 for the Wayland Historical Society, and $100,000 for school technology.


The full list of coal-severance tax-funded projects is as follows:

• City of Martin, Martin Fire Department equipment and expenses, $1,750 in 2014-15, $1,750 in 2015-16.

• City of Wayland, Wayland Fire Department expenses, $1,750 in 2014-15, $1,750 in 2015-16.
