PIKEVILLE — A Floyd County man wanted on federal drug charges finally appeared before a judge last week, nearly three years after he was indicted.


Bill D. Shepherd appeared in shackles before U.S. Magistrate Judge Edward B. Atkins last Friday for arraignment. He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.


In March 2011, a federal grand jury charged Shepherd with conspiring to distribute oxycodone pills in Floyd County between late 2009 and Jan. 25, 2010. He was additionally charged with actually distributing the pills Jan. 25, 2010.


Following his arraignment, Shepherd was released, pending his trial on the charges.


Atkins set a trial date of April 14.
