MOREHEAD — Kentucky artists are invited to participate in the Bluegrass Biennial 2014, a juried exhibition of contemporary artworks of Kentuckians, which will be displayed from June 9-Aug. 27 in the main gallery of Morehead State University’s Claypool-Young Art Building.

A closing reception and juror’s talk will be held Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 5 - 7 p.m.

The Bluegrass Biennial exhibition is open to all artists 18 years who are residing in Kentucky. Awards will be presented for Best in Show ($300) and Merit ($100 each).

Andrea Fisher, director of the Morlan Gallery at Transylvania University, will be the exhibition juror. Fisher, who holds a B.F.A. degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, has been the director of gallery since 2001.

In that time, Fisher has brought an impressive list of nationally and internationally recognized artists and critics to the gallery. She has served on multiple jury panels in and out of Kentucky, has curated more than 70 exhibitions, and been a guest speaker or panelist for various events.

Born and raised in San Diego, Fisher considers Kentucky home.

“Kentucky - which has always had an embarrassment of cultural riches - is currently experiencing a renaissance of artistic creative production. It is satisfying to be a small part of that movement and exciting to watch the Commonwealth’s writers, musicians, and visual artists enter the national discourse in a wonderfully unique way,” said Fisher.

Submissions must be postmarked by Friday, March 7.

The Claypool-Young art gallery, an educational resource of the art and design department and the University, features contemporary art for the Morehead State University community and its service region. The gallery, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment, is free and open to the public. Parking is available on Main Street, and across campus after 5 p.m.

A prospectus PDF and additional information is available by calling Jennifer Reis, gallery director, at 606-783-5446.
