FRANKFORT — Floyd County could see $253 million spent on roads, as part of the governor’s proposed $7 billion six-year highway plan, announced this week.
Gov. Steve Beshear announced the proposal Wednesday.
The bulk of the plan is taken up by Beshear’s plan to widen Route 114 and the Mountain Parkway from Prestonsburg to Campton. Of the $253 million set aside for Floyd, $171 million is planned for the parkway widening.
The first Floyd County section to be constructed under the plan runs 1.8 miles, from Route 404 to Steve Fitzpatrick Road. The plan calls for $1.8 million to be spent on designing that section this year, $6.4 million to be spent on utility relocation and right-of-way acquistion next year, and $30 million for construction in 2016.
The next Floyd parkway section to see construction would be the 3.5 mile stretch from the Magoffin County line to Adams Cemetery Road. The plan calls for spending $2.9 million for design this year, $10.4 million for utility relocation and right-of-way acquisition next year, and $50 million for construction in 2018.
The final 3.9 mile stretch of parkway in Floyd County will link the other two. Plans call for spending $3.2 million for design this year, $11.5 million for utility relocation and right-of-way acquisition next year, and $55 million for construction in 2019.
The governor’s road plan also calls for spending $2.7 million to mitigate dangerous conditions along a one-mile stretch of U.S. 23, between Route 80 and Town Branch Road. The plan calls for spending $900,000 on utility relocation and right-of-way acquisition this year and $1.8 million for construction next year.
The road plan also contains $50 million to complete the Route 680 Minnie-to-Harold Connector in two sections, with $19 million going to construction from Boy Hollow of Simpson Branch to Little Mud Creek Road this year, and $31 million going to construction between Little Mud Creek Road and the mouth of Mouth of Tackett Creek.
The governor’s plan also calls for replacing a number of bridges in Floyd County. Those to be constructed this year include Route 194 over Brushy Creek, between Floyd and Pike counties; Route 466 over the Left Fork of Beaver Creek; and Route 777 over the Right Fork of Beaver Creek. The plan also calls for replacing a bridge on Route 1100 over Little Paint Creek in 2017 and a bridge over Brush Creek on Route 550, near the Route 850 junction.
The plan also contains references to a plan to replace the landmark Justell Bridge, near Betsy Layne, although no construction money has been set aside for that project. The plan calls for spending $700,000 for design in 2018 and $800,000 for utility relocation and right-of-way acquisition in 2020.
