PIKEVILLE — A unit secretary at U.S. Penitentiary Big Sandy has been indicted, accused with having sex with an inmate.

On Oct. 3, a federal grand jury charged Angela Davis with abusive sexual contact. According to the indictment, Davis engaged in sexual contact with an inmate of the prison, beginning in January and continuing until July 16. The indictment notes that the inmate was under Davis’ “custodial, supervisory or disciplinary authority.”

Davis appeared Tuesday before Magistrate Judge Edward B. Atkins and entered a plea of not guilty. A jury trial was set for Dec. 2.

If convicted, Davis faces a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

U.S. District Judge Amul R. Thapar is presiding over the case.
