PRESTONSBURG — Health educators will have to chance to learn how to ensure their messages reach their intended audience, Friday, during a workshop at the Floyd County Cooperative Extension Service.
The Floyd County Cancer Coalition is sponsoring a “Health Literacy Workshop” at the extension service’s new office building, located on Route 321, north of Prestonsburg, at the site of the former Plantation Motel. The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. and last until noon.
Participants will learn the “Teach Back” method of communication, which will show them how to write and adapt print materials.
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops and examples of written materials. Part of the day’s exercises will include a review of reading materials offered by educators’ organizations.
The workshop will be conducted by Erma Thornbury and Crystal Adkins, beneficiary services representatives with UMWA Health and Retirement Funds.
