WILLIAMSON - The second annual King Coal Festival Coal Dust Run/Walk 5K will take place in downtown Williamson, on Saturday, September 14th at 7 p.m. This unique race celebrates the mining heritage and history of the Tug Valley area that included portions of both West Virginia and Kentucky who are separated only by the Tug River.

Participants will follow a downtown course covering 3.1 miles and throughout the race, will be doused from head to toe in “coal dust.” Each participant will receive a medal when they finish the race, as well as a tech t-shirt, glow sticks and safety goggles when they begin. A registration fee of $20 will be charged for all who enter. The starting line will be in front of the historical Coal House, located at 73 East 2nd Avenue in Williamson.

The rules of the race are quite simple: wear white, have fun and finish the evening looking like a coal miner who has just concluded a shift underground! Proceeds from the race will benefit the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce and are used to promote the King Coal Festival and other local events throughout the year.

Sponsors for the event include the Tug Valley Road Runners Club, Consol Energy, Appalachian Power, Marcum Law Office, Verizon Wireless Zone, Cotiga, Friends of Coal, The Southside Mall and Young Brothers Machine and Electrical. For more information you are encouraged to follow the event on Facebook at www.facebook.com/tugvalley or search: “Coal Dust Run/Walk 5K”. You may also call Natalie Young, the Executive Director of the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce at 304-235-5240 to have your questions answered. For those who wish to pre-register for the event, you may do so by following instruction on the link at: http://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=11413.
