PRESTONSBURG — No injuries were reported following a Tuesday morning accident when a school bus collided with a sedan on Route 1428 in Prestonsburg.

Bus driver Jennifer Prater was taking kids from her route in the David area to the Adams Middle School, when a northbound Ford Fusion driven by Brenda Standafer failed to negotiate the S-curve, according to police at the scene. The bus struck the car squarely across the passenger side. Eleven children were on board the bus at the time.

Officers from the Prestonsburg Police Department were the first on the scene, but the investigation was soon taken over by the Kentucky State Police. Standafer is an employee of KSP Post 13 in Hazard, and the Ford she was driving is KSP property.

Paramedics confirmed there were no injuries sustained in the crash. The process of notifying parents began as soon as the school system found out, and the children were soon boarded onto another bus to be taken to school.

The accident remains under investigation by Sgt. Gary Lafferty with the KSP.
