Kaleigh Jordan Kendrick, of Prestonsburg, won first place in VFW Post 3769’s annual “Voice of Democracy” essay contest. All high school students are welcome to participate in this scholarship essay contest, which awards cash prizes to the winners. Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars premier scholarship program. Each year, more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme.
