Mahendra Varia, the man of a few words, the man of an inspiring soul, my community will always remember Mahendra as the man with a heart of gold. However, for Allen Central girls’ softball, we will always remember him as the man who was a diamond. Not only did his smile shine, so did his heart. Mahendra’s heart shined bright. His heart and soul shined with love, courage and inspiration. His heart shined with motivation, motivation to carry his leadership onto the diamond, Chandra Varia, have given us.
When a peer of any age calls from the Martin community or any surrounding community, he was always ready and willing to be a blessing. From organizations, to the less fortunate, all around he gave from his heart. He didn’t give small, he didn’t give just what was needed, he went above and beyond and gave every gift from his heart.
Giving life-changing paths and saving lives is just one of the greatest blessings we have found true of the Varias. On top of theeir game to expand school programs, functions, extracurricular and other forms of education, providing motivation for students to want to stay in school and have understanding of the importance of education, as well as inspire the youth on leadership, is one of the small, life-changing paths he and his wife have given us and will continue to expand all areas of all ages in education. Giving generous donations to the Martin hospital regularly is just how they save lives of others, along with the amoun ts of hours they work to keep patients strong and comfortable.
I could go on all day and never be able to touch every little thing that they have done to forever better the communities in our area and each individual in them. All in all, there are truly no words that could begin to explain the difference they have made. If you have ever had the chance to speak with Mahendra or Chandra, you have an understanding of just how kind, caring and inspiring the Varias are.
As we mourn the loss of Mahendra, we all have something that will carry from him. For me, I know just how honoring and important it is to be a leader. Mahendra will continue to lead the leaders in our communities to continue expanding, growing and improving our lives today and tomorrow. Fly high, angel. We miss you, but we will carry a piece of your genuine heart and a piece of your smile, everywhere we go.
May you protect our community and may you keep each player, fan and coach safe that travels to see the blessings and in memory of you, at the Martin softball field, home of the Lady Rebels. You won our heart and it’s our turn to win for you. With your blessing and leadership, that is just what we will do.
Thank you, for being a man who was a diamond.
