The first day of the 2013 Black Gold Festival kicked off Thursday morning in downtown Hazard, with vendors and food booths lining Main Street from the craft tent next to City Hall, to Coal Mining Our Future’s tent beside Triangle Park. The carnival sponsored by the Kiwanis Club was again set up in the municipal parking lot next to the health department. Entertainment began at the amphitheatre next to City Hall with the Lions Club Montessori School, followed by the Hazard High School Chorus. Gospel performances from the Summit Church Band and Kevin Wilson rounded out the entertainment Thursday evening. Entertainment shifts to rock and country acts on Friday, with Hannah Ellis and Borrowed Blue headlining the stage in the evening at 7 and 8 p.m. respectively. Black Stone Cherry will headline Saturday’s entertainment at 8 p.m. The Black Gold Festival will be in full swing through Saturday night.
