A pedestrian was killed Sunday night while walking along Hwy. 33 near the Tazewell - New Tazewell city limits.
Around 9:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to a location on Hwy. 33 on the report of a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian, according to a release from the Tazewell Police Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers say they learned that a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 driven by Larry D. Johnson II, of Tazewell, was traveling southbound on Hwy. 33 and allegedly ran off the right side of the roadway, hitting a pedestrian who was walking south.
The vehicle continued on until it came to rest against a house, the release states.
The pedestrian was dead when officers arrived. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
Johnson was taken to the Claiborne County Jail where he is being held without bond on several charges. He is charged with vehicular homicide, driving on a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident causing death and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Several law enforcement and emergeny agencies responded and the investigation is ongoing.
