PRESTONSBURG — When Goldie Conn requested that her 105th birthday be celebrated with “some kind of shindig,” the staff at Prestonsburg Healthcare was happy to oblige.
Over 100 friends and relatives turned out to party with Goldie and help her eat the hamburgers, hotdogs, and massive cake. Goldie was undoubtedly the star of the event, with people always clustered around her and smiling, snapping group pictures, and reminiscing.
“I love everyone,” she says sincerely.
Hubert Conn, Goldie’s oldest living son at age 86, says he sometimes has a hard time believing his good fortune to still have his mother.
Bascom Conn, the baby of the family at a mere 78 years old, says it means everything for his mother to be not only still with them, but to still have her wits and her memories. He credits their mother for helping lead the family through its tough times, and bringing them up right.
The staff at Prestonsburg Healthcare could not say enough about Goldie. Lynn Watts, administrator, and Amy Chapman, their new chaplain, say it is an honor to have her around and get to share in her still-sharp sense of humor.
There is no reason not to expect there will not be an even bigger party next year for birthday 106. Hubert Conn says that Goldie once told him she “has a mind to live to be 120.”
