MARTIN – Eileen Kummant, M.D., has joined the Seton Family Health Center at 11087 Main Street in Martin. The clinic is a department of Saint Joseph Martin, which is part of KentuckyOne Health.
The family practice physician earned her undergraduate degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed her M.D. degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She did her internship as a family practitioner at the McKeesport Hospital Family Practice Program in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and completed a residency in family practice at the Washington Hospital Family Practice Program in Washington, Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania native is board-certified in family practice.
She has served as a Natural Family Planning Medical Consultant to the Pope Paul VI Institute, and holds a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Traveler Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
Kummant has served as the General Medical Officer for the Philadelphia Naval Hospital, and as the Senior Medical Officer for the Branch Clinic at the Naval Hospital on the island of Guam.
In addition, she devoted three years to mission work as a staff physician at St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital in Nyabondo, Kenya, East Africa.
The family physician also volunteered to teach eighth-grade religion classes for 14 years, was the medical director of the Crossroads Crisis Pregnancy Center for three years, and was a member of the Diocese of Pittsburgh Natural Family Planning Advisory Committee.
The doctor and her husband, Peter Kummant, M.D., who is a general surgeon, are the parents of seven children, ages 10 to 30. Four are birth children; three are adopted.
