PRESTONSBURG — Missy Allen, administrator of Riverview Health Care Center, was the guest speaker at the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce networking luncheon meeting on Tuesday, at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park. Allen’s very informative presentation focused on Riverview Health Care Center’s Eden Alternative Philosophy in delivering long term care.

The Eden Alternative is an international organization that provides education and consultation for organizations across the entire continuum of care. As a person-directed care philosophy centered around ten principles of care the focus is dedicated to creating care environments which promote quality of life for residents and those who support them as care partners.

The Eden Alternative’s principle-based philosophy empowers all care partners to transform institutional approaches to care into compassionate communities where life is worth living. The vision is to eliminate loneliness, helplessness, and boredom and the mission is to improve the well-being of Elders and their care partners by transforming the communities where they live and work. Allen stated during her presentation that Riverview Health Care Center was the first facility in Kentucky to join the Eden Registry.
