RICHMOND - NFL Films will be on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University this summer exploring the straight-on kicker in conjunction with the Ray Guy Prokicker.com Camp and Dean Hood Football Camp on June 6-7 at Roy Kidd Stadium.
Newly selected Pro Football Hall of Famer Ray Guy – the first pure punter to ever be named – will also be at the camp.
NFL Films will be focusing a production on straight-on kicking in American football. They will be filming interviews with Guy and Ken Olson, a Prokicker.com instructor who was a straight-on kicker as well. Guy also was a straight-on kicker when he did placekicking.
The camp in June is for soccer style kickers, punters, and long snappers and includes instruction for the straight-on kicking approach. Demonstrations and one-on-one coaching of all skills will be provided, with NFL Films focusing on the straight-on kicking technique.
High school straight-on kickers will be chronicled throughout the camp and selected players may be followed during their high school season to see their involvement in the game as well as their progress on the field.
“We are excited to be part of an NFL Films project in looking at the history of the straight-on kicker,” said Prokicker.com founder Rick Sang. “It’s a perfect opportunity for young straight-on kickers to learn about the skill and meet a new Pro Football Hall of Famer. We’re happy to be part of this with the Dean Hood Football Camp at EKU. There’s not a better place to have it.”
Sang is a former punter and receiver for EKU, playing on the 1979 Division I-AA national championship team. He also coached at Eastern Kentucky with legendary head coach Roy Kidd.
Prokicker.com delivers the best instruction in the business in the kicking, punting and long-snapping aspects of football. It’s a proven winner with nearly half the punters in the NFL having some connection with the camp.
NFL Films will have a crew filming and interviewing at the camp while looking at how kicking has evolved from the straight-on approach to the now more dominant soccer style. They will be examining the trends in the kicking game and what’s ahead for the future.
It is a rare opportunity for high school straight-on kickers to learn more about that straight-on skill with NFL Films cameras rolling behind them. Players will also spend time with a Hall of Fame punter who has unmatched credentials. Guy will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 2.
