HAGER HILL - The Appalachian Wireless Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags, a highly-popular local drag racing event, continues to grow. A record crowd turned out for the latest local drag racing event at Combs Airport Friday-Saturday.

A record 104 cars showed up for a test and tune/grudge racing session Friday. The total car count for the weekend was 163 cars.

“I felt like it was a record crowd,” Appalachian Wireless Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags Race Coordinator Kent Rose said. “Having 163 cars for a spring event is great. We had a record turnout of 104 cars on Friday and also had several new cars from Virginia and West Virginia. The only promotion we had was through Facebook, The Floyd County Times and WSAZ. Considering the other various events going on throughout Eastern Kentucky, the crowd was even more phenomenal.”

Appalachian Wireless is the cooperate sponsor for the Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags throughout the 2014 season.

Class winners and a complete recap of the latest Appalachian Wireless Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags will appear in the Friday, May 9 edition of The Floyd County Times.
