PIKEVILLE – On Saturday there simply wasn’t any offense from the University of Pikeville softball team as St. Catharine College jumped on it for two 8-0 wins at Paul Butcher Field.

The Patriots’ Krystal Cammuse (6-11) one-hit the Bears in game one with five strikeouts in five innings to earn the run-rule win, while Tiffany Wickline (4-11) scattered just three hits through six innings to earn the win in game two with five strikeouts as well.

Sydney Morris (9-18) took the loss in the opener after allowing eight runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and Miranda Owens (2-4) lost the finale after giving up eight runs, three earned, on four hits with one strikeout.

Pikeville closes out the season with a 13-32 overall record and 9-27 mark in Mid-South Conference play. St. Catharine, which has wrapped up either the No. 7 or No. 8 seed at the conference tournament, improves to 16-25 overall and 12-20 in the MSC.

Third baseman Hollie Hinkle tallied UPIKE’s lone hit in the opener with a two-out double in the fourth inning. She was the only Bear in scoring position in the five-inning game. It was tied up at 0-0 in the fourth inning before the Patriots scored four runs on four hits in the inning and four more on three hits in the fifth to end it.

One of the hits in the fifth was a three-run home run by right fielder Jessie Crouch with one out.

St. Catharine outhit UPIKE just 4-3 in game two, but the Bears came undone from six errors that allowed the Patriots to score in four of the game’s six innings.

Down 2-0 in the second inning the Bears had some brief momentum as designated hitter Courtney Morgan led off with a double before being thrown out at the plate from right field after outfielder Sara Browning’s one-out single.

UPIKE failed to get in scoring position once again, only getting a single from Hinkle in the fourth inning and shortstop Taylor Weeks reached on an error in the sixth.

Up 6-0 in the top of the sixth inning, St. Catharine added one run on a sacrifice fly by pitcher Tiffany Wickline and grabbed the eight-run lead on a two-out single by shortstop Davelynn Day.

UPIKE held a senior-day ceremony for second baseman Emily Castle and pitcher Caitlin Conley between the games.
