BARDSTOWN – After entering Wednesday’s final round in sixth place, the University of Pikeville men’s golf team improved its score by nine strokes to move up two spots for a fourth-place finish in the Mid-South Conference Championship at the Bardstown Country Club at Maywood. Fourth place is the highest finish in program history for the Bears at an MSC Championship.

Lindsey Wilson captured the team crown with a score of 880 (289, 296, 295), followed by Cumberlands (Ky.) in second at 899 (292, 304, 303) and Cumberland (Tenn.) finished third at 909 (294, 306, 309).

Following the championship league officials handed out all-conference honors based on a student-athletes top five scores among the three MSC sponsored events. Boyd represented UPIKE as a Second Team All-MSC performer.

There was a tie for the individual MSC championship as Cumberlands’ Michal Pospisil and Lindsey Wilson’s Frank Medale both carded 217’s for the championship. Medale made up the most ground on day three with a 71 compared to a 75 for Pospisil, but the Cumberlands’ golfer won a playoff for the title on the first hole.

Lindsey Wilson earned the conference’s automatic bid to next month’s NAIA National Championship, while Pospisil earned an individual bid to the championship with his MSC win.
