One dead, one jailed in Bypro shooting

BYPRO — One man is dead and another is in jail, following a shooting Tuesday afternooon at Bypro.

Kentucky State Police from Post 9 responded to the call just after 3 p.m. to find Rodney Mullins, 43, dead from several gunshot wounds.The Floyd County Coroner’s office was called to the scene to pronounce Mullins dead.

The investigation led KSP officers to arrest Tyler Shehan, 23, in connection with the shooting. He is currently housed in the Floyd County Detention Center, facing one charge of murder and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. KSP has said Shehan is originally from Louisville, but officials with the jail say he gave his address as a residence at Bypro.

Troopers remained at the apartment complex where the shooting took place into the evening, conducting interviews and collecting evidence.

On Wednesday, Shehan appeared before District Judge Jimmy Marcum for arraignment. A not guilty plea was entered for him. He is next due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Kentucky State Police Det. Jason Dials remains in charge of the investigation. Authorities have yet to release any detailed information, including the relationship between suspect and victim and any possible motive for the shooting.
