ALLEN - Sophomore Wyatt Crisp belted a two-run home run to lift Allen Central to a hard-fought 3-1 win over 58th District rival Betsy Layne on Thursday at Stumbo Park.
Crisp and teammate Cameron Hamilton, a senior, each had two hits for the Chad Hall-coached Allen Central baseball team in the district matchup.
Hamilton delivered Allen Central’s other RBI.
After each team went scoreless through 5 1/2 innings, Betsy Layne pushed across one run in the bottom half of the fifth frame.
But Allen Central didn’t trail long. Crisp, delivering shortly after Betsy Layne scored, connected for the two-run homer in the top half of the sixth inning.
Allen Central added another run in the top half of the seventh inning.
Allen Central pitchers pitchers Dillon Lawson and Tyler Hamilton split time on the mound. Lawson worked five innings. Lawson and Hamilton registered six strikeouts each.
Hall, who split time on the mound with Peyton Caste. posted five strikeouts.
Betsy Layne was limited to three hits. Case and Brandon Akers led the Betsy Layne offensive effort.
Allen Central is scheduled to host district foe Betsy Layne on April 22.
