PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg softball team notched its first win in the 2014 season in convincing fashion, defeating 58th District rival Allen Central 18-1 in three innings at StoneCrest Park on Thursday.
With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the 58th District.
Following the loss, Allen Central fell to 0-4 and 0-1 in the district.
Prestonsburg senior pitcher Haley Howell earned the win. Howell, who also batted fifth for the Lady Blackcats, registered four strikeouts in three innings.
After giving up one run in the top half of the first inning, Prestonsburg, under the direction of head coach Jamie Howell, plated nine runs.
Following a scoreless Allen Central plate appearance in the top half of the second inning, Prestonsburg added eight more runs.
The top three hitters in the Prestonsburg batting order - Kierra Shelton, Jenna Little and Allyson DeRossett - scored three runs apiece.
Kate Rose, Howell and Hannah Little scored two runs each for the Lady Blackcats.
Contributing for Prestonsburg, Kaylee Collins and Manissa Risner scored one run each.
Cleanup hitter Hanna Sword delivered Allen Central’s only run with an RBI double in the first inning.
Allen Central pitcher Breanna Prater suffered the loss.
