FEDS CREEK — One man is dead following a traffic accident involving a suspected drunk driver on U.S. 460 in Pike County on Saturday.

Barry Shortridge, of Mouthcard, was headed west on U.S. 460, when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail on the right side. Police say he overcorrected, crossing over to the oncoming lanes, where he struck the vehicle of Terry Sawyers, of Mouthcard.

Terry Sawyers was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey. An unnamed passenger in Sawyers’ vehicle was taken to Pikeville Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash.

Kentucky State Police from Post 9 responded and arrested Shortridge on charges of driving under the influence, first offense, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

KSP Accident Reconstructionist Trooper Bryan Layne remains in charge of the investigation.
