Bring HB 173 up for a vote

February 28, 2014

Floyd County is in a unique position on legislative issues in Kentucky. Our state representative, Greg Stumbo, is a member of leadership that decides which bills come to the floor for a vote. As Speaker of the House in the Kentucky legislature, Greg Stumbo has a chance to show leadership on an issue that he has long supported.

The statewide smoke-free workplace bill (HB 173) is popular with voters from all parties. HB 173 will protect non-smokers from secondhand smoke and save millions in health care costs. Its passage will do more to help Kentucky’s poor health status than anything else being considered by the General Assembly.

HB 173 is currently awaiting a vote on the floor of the House. We know that Speaker Stumbo speaks in support of smoke-free workplaces and wants it to pass. Please call House Speaker Stumbo and urge him and House leadership to bring this important issue to the House floor for a vote.

Prestonsburg and many other cities in Kentucky have proven that smoke-free air is good for health and good for business. It’s time we made all workplaces across the state smoke-free. Call 800-372-7181 and leave Speaker Stumbo a message thanking him for his support on this issue and asking him to call HB 173 for a vote!
