BSCTC Art gallery to feature Martha Burchett

January 22, 2014

PRESTONSBURG – The Art Gallery at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) is pleased to announce an exhibit by Martha Burchett.

Her eclectic display will run through February 15 in the gallery, located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Center on the Prestonsburg campus of BSCTC. A reception will be held on Thursday, January 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is free and there will be free refreshments.

Burchett was born in Louisville, reared in Ashland, and spent the last 35 years in eastern Kentucky, living in Paintsville, Pikeville and now Prestonsburg. She became fascinated by painting in her twenties, after seeing the Armand Hammer Collection shown at the Huntington Museum of Art. Coming face to face with a Rembrandt lit a determination to attempt to paint.

“This show chronicles the life and experiences of Martha since she started to paint,” said BSCTC Art Gallery Director Tim Sizemore. “Her work also demonstrates her flexibility as an artist.”
