Bobcats handle Allen Central

BETSY LAYNE - Taking a break from its preparation for the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship game, Betsy Layne posted another 58th District/Floyd County Conference win on Tuesday, topping visiting Allen Central 55-37 at the Dome.

Peyton Case led Betsy Layne with a game-high 19 points. Case scored 11 points for the Bobcats in the first half.

Joining Case in double figures, Dylan Meade added 13 points for the Bobcats.

Betsy Layne, under the direction of veteran head coach Junior Newsome, led at the conclusion of each quarter. After edging Allen Central 12-10 in the first quarter, Betsy Layne doubled up the Rebels 18-9 in the second period to lead 30-19 at halftime.

Dominant Betsy Layne managed to stretch its lead over Allen Central in each of the last two quarters. The Bobcats outscored Allen Central 18-13 in the third period.

Dustin Rogers had seven points, Dalton Maldonado six, Dylan Hamilton five, Andrew Tackett three and Dalton Meade two for the Bobcats (14-2).

Austin Salisbury led Allen Central with 17 points. Salisbury was the only Allen Central scorer to reach double figures. Jarred Hamilton scored six points, Cameron Hamilton contributed five and Mason Nelson netted four as the Rebels (7-5) suffered their third straight loss.

Junior Handshoe and Braxton Tackett rounded out the Allen Central scoring, finishing with four and two points, respectively.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to visit Allen Central on Jan. 31.
