Boys’ All-A: Betsy Layne handles Valley, advances to title game

PIKEVILLE - Betsy Layne is headed back to the 15th Region All A “A” Classic championship. Former All “A” state champion Betsy Layne defeated Shelby Valley in the semifinals on Monday night, winning 54-43 over the Wildcats at the East Kentucky Expo Center.

Senior Dylan Meade led Betsy Layne with a game-high 22 points. Junior Peyton Case accompanied Meade in double figures, finishing with 11 points.

After the first quarter concluded with the two teams tied 11-11, Betsy Layne boasted a lead after each of the last three quarters.

When halftime arrived, Betsy Layne led 28-24.

The Bobcats led 37-30 at the end of the third quarter.

Dylan Hamilton scored eight points, Dustin Rogers six, Andrew Tackett four and Lako Daniels three for Betsy Layne in the win.

Dalton Richardson led Shelby Valley with a team-high 13 points. Andrew Newsome followed, finishing with 11 points for the Wildcats.

Just missing double figures, Hunter Swindall scored nine points in Shelby Valley’s loss.

Cody Belter chipped in five points, Steve Silvers three and Lamont Wright two for the Shelby Valley boys’ basketball team.

In the other game played as part of the semifinals, Paintsville edged Pikeville 58-55.

Betsy Layne will meet Paintsville in the 15th Region All “A” Classic championship game on Thursday night at 8 p.m..
