Blackcats start strong, falter versus Lawrence

PRESTONSBURG - Prestonsburg, playing at home, dropped its second straight game on Monday night, falling to recent WYMT Mountain Classic participant Lawrence County. Visiting Lawrence County recovered from a slow start to defeat the Blackcats 80-65.


Timmy Dalton led Lawrence County with a game-high 23 points. His brother, Robert Dalton, added 18 points for the Bulldogs. Joining his two teammates in double figures, Austin Chaffins chipped in 17 points for the Lawrence County boys’ basketball team.


Prestonsburg started strong, outscoring Lawrence County 15-13 in the first quarter. But the Blackats fell behind in the second period.


Lawrence County outscored Prestonsburg 26-18 in the second quarter to lead 39-33 at halftime.


The Bulldogs were able to add to their lead after the break, outscoring Prestonsburg 20-15 in the third quarter.


Dalton Frasure paced Prestonsburg with 23 points, sharing game-high scoring honors with Lawrence County’s Timmy Dalton, Jarredd Jarrell scored 11 points and Jarrin Hall flipped in 10 for the Blackcats.


Eight different Prestonsburg plaers provided scoring in the loss.
