BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Ladycats dropped three games in the Lady Ads Christmas Tournament at Danville, which was held Friday-Sunday. Betsy Layne’s three-game stint in the holiday tournament included a game versus the reigning state champion. The Ladycats lost to Clay County, Barbourville and Marion County during the Danville holiday tournament.
Longtime 13th Region powerhouse Clay County handled Betsy Layne in the opening round of the Lady Ads Christmas Tournament on Friday, defeating the Ladycats 63-18.
Another opponent from the 13th Region, Barbourville, pulled away to beat the Ladycats 69-39 in the second round of the Lady Ads Christmas County Saturday.
Reigning state champion Marion County, under the direction of former University of Kentucky men’s basketball player Anthony Epps, notched a win over Betsy Layne in the final round of the Lady Ads Christmas Tournament, topping the Ladycats 60-35.
Betsy Layne exited the Lady Ads Christmas Tournament with a 3-5 record. Under the guidance of first-year head coach Randy Coleman, Betsy Layne has posted wins over Piarist School, Prestonsburg and Sheldon Clark.
Betsy Layne was facing 14th Region championship contender Harlan County in the opening round of the Appalachian Wireless Christmas Connection at Shelby Valley Thursday evening. Results from the Betsy Layne-Harlan County girls’ basketball game were unavailable at press time.
Allen Central to host Williamsburg: Allen Central (3-3) will host Williamsburg (1-7) on Friday. The Lady Rebels dropped back-to-back games to Pike County opponents Shelby Valley and East Ridge last week.
Tip-off for the Allen Central-Williamsburg girls’ basketball game is set for 5 p.m. at J.E. Campbell Arena.
