HAZARD - One of the state’s top young high school volleyball players has yet to enter eighth-grade. Hope Clark, a seventh-grader at Hazard Middle School, made quite a name for herself on the varsity high school volleyball level in the recently-completed 2013 season.
Clark (5-8 1/2) was named the 14th Region Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading Hazard High School to the regional title. She had 48 kills, 14 blocks, two assists and 13 aces in the highly-competitive 14th Region Tournament. Hazard defeated fellow powerhouse Leslie County in the championship match of the 14th Region Tournament and also faced Oldham County in the opening round of the KHSAA State Volleyball Tournament.
The daughter of John Thomas Clark, a Prestonsburg High School graduate who played baseball professionally, Hope Clark is playing club volleyball in London this winter. She will also attend University of Kentucky and Marshall University camps over the upcoming summer.
Hope Clark finished the 2013 high school season with 221 kills, 48 blocks, 12 digs, 13 assists and 124 aces.
