PIPPA PASSES - The Alice Lloyd College Eagles Cross Country squad ventured to Midway in the early morning hours this past Saturday to participate in a big conference meet. The race was held on the campus of Midway College.
The event was a challenge as the day was bitterly cold. The starting temperature was around 40 degrees, but the wind gusts made it feel even colder.
On the women’s side, seven teams sent runners out on the course and 56 women started the race. For the Eagles, Allison Holbrook (Leslie County) was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 25:57. She was followed by Jennifer Graham (Harlan County), who finished in 27:00. Rounding out the order were Brianna Osborne (Wise Christian) and Katelin Hilton (Lawrence County) Their final times were 28:46 and 29:10, respectively.
On the men’s side, 47 runners toed the starting line for the 8K race. When the dust had settled, Clay Montgomery (North Laurel) completed the challenging course in 34:22.
“I felt that this meet was a major test for our young squad,” commented ALC Coach Gary D. Stepp. “These kids showed a lot of fight, running on such a frosty day against top-flight competition. However, no one can question their heart or effort, and I’m pleased with their determination.”
Alice Lloyd will be off until November 9 when it participates in the KIAC Tournament at Midway.
