On Saturday, Oct. 19, Carl D. Perkins Culinary Arts students gave up their Saturday night to assist the Jenny Wiley State Resort Park with its annual Buffalo Night.

Students Jazzmine Mathis, 23, of Louisville; Justin Collier, 21, of Nicholasville; Robert Pinson, 22, of Lexington; and Andrew Kirby, 19, of West Van Lear, began working at the park at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, helping prepare various buffet side items that went along with Buffalo Night, including carved buffalo, fried chicken, buffalo chili, assorted vegetables and desserts.

Kentucky Parks Commissioner Elaine Walker thanked the students for their time and hard work when she paused for a picture in the dining room.

“Without volunteers such as these wonderful students, the park would not be successful,” Walker said.

Carl D. Perkins Job Corps Culinary Arts, Facilities Maintenance and Carpentry students do Work Based Learning (WBL) at the park throughout the year, getting much needed on-the-job training experiences and skills.
