SHIP counselors available to help navigate Medicare

PRESTONSBURG — If you currently or will soon receive Medicare coverage and are confused by your options or such terms as “Part D,” “medigap” or “supplemental insurance,” your SHIP has come in.

Medicare open enrollment is currently underway until Dec. 7. SHIP, or State Health Insurance Program, counselors are now available at Big Sandy Area Development District to assist Medicare beneficiaries get answers to any questions they have about plans and options.

Big Sandy ADD recommends that all Medicare participants fully explore various options, because health and drug plans can change benefits and costs from year to year. SHIP counselors are can help beneficiaries and their family members learn how various plans work.

Medicare is not part of the new health insurance marketplace. Those receiving Medicare do not have to enroll in the new exchanges.

SHIP counselors are available by calling Big Sandy ADD at (606) 886-2374 or (800) 737-2723, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. All SHIP services are free.
