Homemade pies always good in the Fall

Fall has arrived and I love the cooler temperatures and shorter days. It seems that time slows down a bit after all of the summer activity and we have more time to enjoy our homes and family.

The harvest is coming to a close along with an abundance of apples, pumpkins and squash. Comfort foods come to mind during the autumn and winter months.

Some favorites would be various sorts of pies. Apple and pumpkin would top most people’s lists. One of my personal favorites is Chicken Pot Pie.

Sure, they do have some really good frozen pies at the grocery stores but none can really compare to ones that you’ve made yourself. A lot of people are intimidated by making a homemade pie crust. I assure you it’s not nearly as hard as it seems.

With just a few basic ingredients you can make your own in just a short time and add your filling of choice, pop it in the oven and within an hour or so you will have made a treat your family and friends will love! What is better than serving something that you’ve taken the time to prepare yourself from scratch? Who wouldn’t love to receive a homemade pie as a gift?

I found a recipe online for a pie crust that has gotten me many compliments over the years. It’s light and flaky and is very low fat and has no cholesterol, which are added benefits. It’s simple and you most likely have all the ingredients in your kitchen already.

You can prepare the recipe for a single crust pie such as a pumpkin pie or double the recipe for an apple or chicken pot pie. I’ve never tried it but I would assume it would work well for fried pies, too. I hope you enjoy making this crust as much as I do.
