Crase honored for 200th win

BETSY LAYNE - On Saturday, Coach Christina Crase won her 200th game as head coach of the Betsy Layne Ladycat volleyball team. She has been head coach of the Betsy Layne volleyball program since 2004. Her current record is 205-99.

Crase guided Betsy Layne to the Paintsville Fall Classic championship.

Betsy Layne beat Lawrence County, Paintsville, Russell, Phelps and Ashland Blazer en route to capturing a championship in the late-season tournament.

During the Paintsville-hosted tournament, Betsy Layne defeated Lawrence County 2-0 (25-13, 25-9); Paintsville 2-0 (25-10, 25-20); Russell 2-1 (22-25, 25-12, 25-19); Phelps 2-0 (25-11, 25-10) and Ashland Blazer (25-23, 25-18). The Paintsville Fall Classic featured high school volleyball teams from the 15th and 16th regions.

Earlier in her coaching career, Crase guided Betsy Layne to a 15th Region volleyball title.

Betsy Layne has won back-to-back matches over Letcher County Central (3-0; 25-9, 25-11, 25-9) and Prestonsburg (3-0; 25-12, 25-10, 25-2). The Ladycats are 24-4 and ranked second behind 58th District/Floyd County Conference foe Allen Central in the 15th Region standings.

Crase was awarded a signed game ball on Tuesday during her team’s match versus Letcher County Central. Betsy Layne Athletic Director Ricky Thacker presented Crase with a signed game ball.
