Ray recognized for 1,500th assist

BETSY LAYNE - A Betsy Layne senior volleyball player reached a milestone earlier in the week. On Tuesday, Cecelia Ray recorded the 1,500th assist of her high school career. She reached the milestone during the third game of a match versus Letcher County Central and the match was stopped to present her with a game ball. When play resumed, Betsy Layne went on to defeat Letcher County Central 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-9).

Ray has helped to lead the Betsy Layne volleyball team throughout her senior season.

Betsy Layne captured the Paintsville Fall Classic championship over the weekend. The Ladycats have won 12 of their last 15 matches.

Betsy Layne head coach Christina Crase was honored for winning her 200th match over the weekend.

The Ladycats continue to rank as one of the 15th Region’s top volleyball teams. The current 15th Region volleyball standings shape up as follows: Allen Central (26-5); Betsy Layne (24-4); Pikeville (24-5); East Ridge (22-4); Paintsville (17-8); Shelby Valley (14-7); Johnson Central (14-16); South Floyd (13-9); Phelps (11-13); Belfry (10-10); Piarist School (7-10); Sheldon Clark (4-12); Lawrence County (4-17); Pike County Central (3-16); Prestonsburg (2-13); Magoffin County (2-23).
