PRESTONSBURG — A Floyd County church will be collecting food donations for the Prestonsburg area food pantry next Saturday during Jenny Wiley Festival.
Saint James Episcopal Church will have a booth set up outside near the stage area on Saturday, Oct. 12, where they will be collecting food for the Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry. The food pantry serves 150 families a month in the Prestonsburg area.
The food pantry also serves as a point of information to help local families find services.
“We’re trying to inform people also of the health issues available, job opportunities, and the various shelters in the area,” the Rev. Judy Yunker said.
The food pantry has nearly completed a new meditation garden dedicated to four women — Mary Agnes Short, Carolyn Leach, Marygrace Cottrell, and Ann Latta — who have been instrumental over the years with helping the church and pantry fulfill their mission.
“We’ve gotten a lot of cooperation from the city of Prestonsburg and other churches in the area,” Yunker said.
The food pantry booth will also be giving away free bottles of water during the festival.
