PIKEVILLE – Rachel Murphy posted seven kills, Sydney Morris dished out 19 assists and Dominique Melvin found 13 digs for the University of Pikeville, but it wasn’t enough to slow down a potent attack from No. 13 Lindsey Wilson in a 3-0 Mid-South Conference loss on Monday at UPIKE Gym.
The Blue Raiders (16-0, 7-0 MSC) packed a punch on offense, finishing with a .252 hitting percentage and seven service aces to blank the Bears with set scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-18. Sarah Anderson led the attack with 12 kills on 22 sings for a .409 mark.
Brianna Bartlett dished out a team-best 18 assists and Nadelina Nesheva and Anderson sent back three blocks each to help seal the win. Lindsey Wilson led UPIKE in total blocks 13-10.
UPIKE (8-8, 1-3 MSC) ended the match with a .045 hitting percentage as Haley Esquivel lead the way with a 5 of 14 performance (.214). Chelsea Staples and Morris led the Bears at the net with three blocks each.
Lindsey Wilson controlled the first set by taking an early 11-2 lead, but the second and third frames were more competitive. UPIKE Was within two points at 14-12 in the second set before a 5-0 Blue Raider run and it was 20-16 in the final set, but the Bears managed just two more points the rest of the way.
Pikeville will returns to the court on short rest as Alice Lloyd comes to UPIKE Gym at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
