BUCKLEYS CREEK - Host Pike County Central dealt Prestonsburg its third straight loss on Friday night, edging the Blackcats 38-36 in a non-district game.
Pike Central defeated Prestonsburg for its second straight win after opening the season 0-2. With the win, Pike Central managed to even its record to 2-2.
Following the loss, its third straight by two points or less, Prestonsburg dropped to 1-4.
The Blackcats owned a lead in each half before falling short
Pike Central quarterback Mac Justice completed nine of 19 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 17 times for 67 yards and two other scores to lift the Hawks to the win.
After a scoreless first quarter, Pike Central outscored Prestonsburg 15-8 in the second period.
The Hawks clung to a 23-20 lead at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Pike Central receiver Andrew Fields was Justice’s go-to receiver, reeling in two touchdown receptions.
Running back Dakota Ray led Pike Central on the ground, rushing 16 times for 152 yards.
Prestonsburg quarterback Jarredd Jarrell passed for 96 yards and one touchdown and ran for 106 yards and three other scores.
Prestonsburg sophomore Dalton Frasure ran for 149 yards on 25 carries. The versatile Frasure caught five passes for 55 yards.
Prestonsburg will be back on the road this week, visiting Betsy Layne for a key Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday night.
