PRESTONSBURG - A member of the Floyd County Board of Education recently made a significant donation to one of the schools up and coming programs.

Board officials announced this week that board member Dr. Chandra Varia plans to donate $25,000 to the Allied Health Program at Prestonsburg High School.

Prestonsburg High School began the Allied Health program this year where students can learn about different careers in the medical field, basic first aid including CPR certification, understanding medical terminology and math that applies to the medical field. Upon completing three classes and passing a Kentucky Occupational Skills Standards Assessment, students can also become career ready.

“The students and staff at Prestonsburg High School and I want to thank Dr. Varia for her generous donation,” said Floyd County Superintendent Henry Webb.

Dr. Varia presented the donation to Principal Jerry Butcher and students in the Allied Health program Monday, September 9, 2013.

Dr. Varia encouraged students to attend school regularly, work hard and offered assistance upon graduation with postsecondary education.
