PIKEVILLE – Nineteen games at home in the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center, six dates with opponents who participated in the NAIA National Championship last season and hosting the BB&T Classic highlight the 2013-14 University of Pikeville basketball schedule.
The season tips off with the Basketball Blast-Off at 9 p.m. ET on Oct. 16 with an intrasquad scrimmage at the UPIKE Gym.
Following that, the first regular-season competition is on Oct. 30 at home against Tennessee Wesleyan.
Once again the Bears travel to the University of Louisville to take on the defending national champions in the KFC YUM! Center for an exhibition on Nov. 6.
Playing against the Cardinals on their home floor will be the final tune-up before hosting the annual BB&T Classic with Alice Lloyd (Ky.), Virginia Intermont and West Virginia Tech all coming to the Expo Center for games on Nov. 8-9.
The six contests against NAIA postseason qualifiers includes two against Life (Ga.) on Nov. 12 and Feb. 1 and two each against Mid-South Conference foes Georgetown (Ky.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). UPIKE faces the Tigers on Jan. 16 and Feb. 15 and the Blue Raiders on Jan. 9 in the MSC home opener and Feb. 8.
Georgetown won the 2013 NAIA National Championship and Lindsey Wilson advanced to the Fab Four.
The first conference game of the season is slated for Nov. 21 at St. Catharine.
All home games will once again be streamed live by Pike TV, which is also available locally on Channel 99 through Suddenlink and Inter Mountain Cable.
UPIKE returns four players from last year’s group that finished 26-7 overall and 15-5 in the MSC with a four-point loss in the first round of the national tournament to LSU-Shreveport. This year’s recruiting class features 10 NCAA or junior-college transfers and two incoming freshmen.
