Betsy Layne competes in Bluegrass State Games

BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne volleyball team enjoyed a productive offseason, competing against some of the state’s top teams. Betsy Layne finished in Flight 2 of eight flights with a record of 3-3 at the Bluegrass State Games. Betsy Layne fell to Ryle (defending BGSG champion), Covington Holy Cross and Christian Academy of Louisville during the statewide event.

The Ladycats are once again expected to contend for 58th District and 15th Region championships.

Betsy Layne hosted 15th Region rivals Paintsville and East Ridge for two preseason matches. The Ladycats were victorious in both contests, defeating Paintsville 3-1 and East Ridge 3-2.

Cecelia Ray (10 assists, 9 kills, 1 Ace, 7 digs), Kassidy Harmon (3 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs), Allie Meade (13 kills, 2 aces, 5 digs, 2 blocks), Katie Williams 26 assists, 4 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs), Kayce Tackett (1 assist, 2 kills, 2 aces, 7 digs), Emily Kidd (2 kills, 2 blocks) and Alex Hunter (1 ace, 6 digs) combined to lead Betsy Layne to the win over East Ridge.

The Ladycats concluded the 2012 season 22-12, falling to East Ridge in the 15th Region Tournament Semifinals.

Betsy Layne finished runner-up to Allen Central in the 58th District last season.
