PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg High School football program will host its annual media day at Blackcat Stadium/Josh Francis Field on Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m. Prestonsburg coaches and players will be available for representatives of media outlets throughout the event.
Prestonsburg is the preseason favorite in Class 2A, District 8. The Blackcats are picked to finish ahead of district rivals Betsy Layne, Leslie County and Shelby Valley in the four-team district’s preseason poll.
Prestonsburg exited the 2012 season 8-4. The Blackcats fell to Danville in the second round of the Class 2A State Playoffs. Danville slipped past the Blackcats, defeating Prestonsburg 16-14.
Prestonsburg outlasted Middlesboro 36-33 in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs.
Prestonsburg is the reigning Class 2A, District 8 champion. The Blackcats have captured two of the last three Class 2A, District 8 titles.
Prestonsburg, under the direction of veteran head coach John DeRossett, the all-time winningest coach in the history of the Blackcat football program, notched wins over Perry County Central, Sheldon Clark, Pike County Central, Betsy Layne, Shelby Valley, Leslie County and Pike County Central during the 2012 regular-season. The Blackcats dropped regular-season games to Lawrence County, Belfry and Hazard in 2012.
Prestonsburg excelled offensively last season, outscoring opponents 435-351.
The Blackcats’ 2013 schedule will feature games versus Pikeville, Sheldon Clark, Knox Central, Powell County, Pike County Central, Betsy Layne, Hazard, Shelby Valley, Leslie County and Lawrence County.
