PRESTONSBURG - Local athlete Brent Graden finished his first half Ironman in Muncie, Indiana with a time of 6 hours and 32 minutes. The race consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run for a total of 70.3 miles. Graden is next slated to complete in a full Ironman in Louisville on Sunday, Aug. 25. A full Ironman event will consist of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run for a total of 140.6 miles. The race should roughly take about 14 hours to complete. Leading up to this fall, Graden will also be able to say he has completed 10 half marathons and 10 full marathons.
“I decided at age 40 that I was going to complete 40 of the world’s hardest races,” Graden confided. “I have 22 of those done now and look forward to the 50-mile run and the 100 mile run in 2014. It keeps me young. I also enjoy all the new racing friends that I have made along the way. I definitely encourage everyone to enter a race and do it for yourself. You might be surprised how well you do.”
Graden also confirmed that a new local club called EKY Racers will be debuting soon and offer local races to benefit not only the community but local charities.
