MOREHEAD - Morehead State University Head Baseball Coach Mike McGuire has announced the addition of two student-athletes, Clayton Meyer and Blaine Tanner, who will join the program for the 2014 season.
A native of St. Peters, Mo., Meyer comes to MSU after two seasons at Southwestern Illinois College, where he was named a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American, NJCAA Northern All-District, All-Region 24, Great Rivers Athletic Conference All-Conference and Team MVP. In his sophomore season for the Blue Storm, Meyer hit .426, while driving in 25 runs and stealing 22 bases.
“Clayton is an athletic, left-handed hitting outfielder,” McGuire said. “He is a tough, hard nosed kid and competitor who runs pretty well and handles the bat. He can play centerfield or left field and should make an immediate contribution.”
Hailing from North Little Rock, Ark., Tanner joins the Eagles as a transfer from Three Rivers College where he accumulated more than 100 hits in his two years, with a combined batting average of .340. In high school, he was named to the all-state team and was invited to play in the Arkansas High School All-Star Game following his senior season at Little Rock Catholic High School. His father, Edwin, was an 11-year veteran of the Minor Leagues, spending time in the Indians, Cardinals and Reds organizations.
“Blaine is a versatile infielder who can play third base, shortstop or second base,” McGuire said. “He has a good feel for how to play the game and is a hitter who should make an impact.”
