Federal inmate indicted for escape

PIKEVILLE — An inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary Big Sandy could be looking at a longer prison sentence, after being indicted last week on an escape charge.

Michael McDowell was indicted May 23 on a single charge of escape from an institution.

According to the indictment, McDowell escaped from the facility Feb. 13.

If convicted, McDowell faces a maximum sentence of up to five more years in prison, plus up to $250,000 in fines.
