ALLEN - Host Allen Central fell victim to a late rally from visiting Paintsville Friday evening as the two regional rivals met in a regular-season matchup in Floyd County. Paintsville scored four runs in the top half of the seventh inning to break open a tie game. Allen Central couldn’t answer Paintsville’s four-run outburst, going scoreless in its final plate appearance of the mid-season game. In a battle of former 15th Region champions, Paintsville pulled away to beat the Rebels 5-1 at Stumbo Park.
The win allowed Paintsville to push its record to 9-4.
Allen Central slipped to 8-6 following the loss.
Kash Daniel pitched the first four innings for Paintsville, prior to Spencer Taylor coming on to pitch in relief. Taylor has emerged as a key pitcher for the Paintsville baseball team.
Allen Central pitcher Tanner Hamilton took the loss.
Paintsville scored first, plating a run in the top half of the first inning. The Tigers continued to lead 1-0 until the bottom half of the second inning when the Rebels evened the game.
Allen Central tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the second inning. The home team, however, couldn’t dent the scoreboard again.
Luke Daniels and Colby Burchett had an RBI apiece for the Tigers.
Kane Taylor led the Allen Central offense with two hits.
Allen Central is scheduled to visit Paintsville April 27.
