ROBINSON CREEK - The Betsy Layne Bobcats stopped a two-game losing skid on Monday, upending host Shelby Valley 5-4 in a 15th Region matchup.
Betsy Layne scored its five runs via nine hits.
The Bobcats, under the tutelage of head coach Bryan Dixon, scored first and never trailed.
Betsy Layne pushed one run across in the top half of the first inning and led 3-0 in the fifth before Shelby Valley answered with its first run.
The host Wildcats made the game very interesting, late. With Betsy Layne leading 5-1, Shelby Valley scored three runs in its final plate appearance in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
Senior Michael Henson and sophomore Jonathan Brock helped to lead the Betsy Layne offensive effort with three hits apiece. Betsy Layne senior Kannon Newsome collected a game-high three RBIs for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats won despite committing four errors.
Brock started on the mound for Betsy Layne and pitched 5.0 innings. Junior Houston Hall pitched out of a relief role for the Bobcats.
Shelby Valley freshman pitcher McKenzie Fields suffered the loss. Fields pitched a complete complete, registering a game-high 13 strikeouts. The Shelby Valley hurler threw 25 first pitch strikes.
Fields led the Shelby Valley offense with two hits.
Shelby Valley scored its four runs on five hits. The Wildcats only had one error in the short effort.
