Lady Blackcats too much for Sheldon Clark

PRESTONSBURG - Host Prestonsburg scored six runs in the fourth inning and seven in the sixth to pull away for an 18-8 win over 15th Region foe Sheldon Clark on Wednesday at StoneCrest.


Prestonsburg junior pitcher Haley Howell earned the win.


Sheldon Clark pitcher Madison Mooney suffered the loss.


Prestonsburg improved to 2-5 after posting the win.


The loss kept the Sheldon Clark softball winless as the Lady Cardinals dropped to 0-8.


Prestonsburg scored a pair of runs in the first inning to move ahead 2-0. But the Lady Blackcats gave up four runs in the top half of the second inning to allow Sheldon Clark to move ahead 4-2.


Evening the game, Prestonsburg plated two more runs in the second inning.


Visiting Sheldon Clark regained the lead by pushing across two more runs in the top half of the fourth inning.


Not to be outdone, Prestonsburg scored six runs in the home half of the fourth inning to move back out in front 10-6. After retaking the lead in the fourth inning, Prestonsburg never trailed again.


Sheldon Clark plated a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings.


Cleanup batter Allyson DeRossett was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Blackcats. DeRossett had a double and two singles. Leadoff hitter Kierra Shelton, Hannah Little and Kaylee Collins added two singles apiece for the Lady Blackcats.


Helping her cause at the plate, Howell connected on a double in the sixth inning.


Catcher Ashley Hatfield, the fifth-place hitter in the Sheldon Clark batting order, scored three runs.


Second baseman Boo Newsome scored two runs for the Lady Cardinals.
